All parish organizations have as their role to bring the Good News of

Christ's love to others through various activities and in helping the parish

community and bring God's people to a oneness of mind and heart.  

 

                                        Bible Study

Mission Statement:  

 

To provide  the opportunity for interested parties to discuss and better

understand the teachings of the Bible, especially those Scripture

Readings that will be read during the Liturgy of Mass.

 

Every Wednesday morning a Bible study is held at 9:30 AM in the 

Religions Education Office. The group discusses the gospel reading for the

coming Sunday and how it is significant in their personal live.  They do this

while enjoying bagels, coffee, tea and each other's company. The session

is led by Deacon Joe.

 

Every Thursday evening from 8 to 9:30 PM a second Bible study

class is conducted in the Rectory. This class is conducted by John Pinto.

 

 

                                          Bingo

Mission Statement:


Bingo is a weekly event which is held to raise parish funds and to provide a

social outlet for bingo players.  Bingo is held every Friday evening at

7:30 P.M in the school auditorium.  In addition to the exciting slate of

Bingo games, a snack bar is available which serves coffee, tea, soft drinks,

pizza, burgers, seasonal favorites and home made baked goods.  Players

and volunteer workers are always welcome.

Mission Statement:

 

It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to serve others by helping to

instill values in young people and in other ways prepare them to make ethical

choices over their lifetime in achieving their full potential.  Meetings are held the

third Wednesday of every month, from September through June, at 7:00 P.M.

in the school auditorium.

 

   Major events of the year are:

  • Pinewood Derby held in January
  • Popcorn fundraiser held in October
  • Christmas Wreath fundraiser held in December


   All boys ages 6 through 10 (1st through 5th grades) are welcome and
   encouraged to join.

 

 

                                        Festival

The Parish Festival, which is held once a year usually in the month of July, is a

great event in the life of the parish.  Through amusement rides, games of chance,

raffles and a great variety of food, the Festival gives the people of the parish and

our neighbors a chance to meet each other in a fun-filled atmosphere.  The

Festival is also an important fundraising event in the life of the parish.  The success

of the Festival depends on the generous support of our parishioners who volunteer

in many capacities to make the festival happen.  Our parishioners can begin to sign

up to work at the festival beginning in the late spring, and everyone is welcome to

become involved.

 

 


                                         Finance Council

Mission Statement:

 

The finance council is consultative to and aids the pastor in matters pertaining to the

administration of parish finances.  Through prayer it develops long range financial

plans in accordance with the total parish mission--to prepare the parish budget in

coordination with all pastoral activities of the parish.  It monitors parish revenues

and expenses on an ongoing basis to determine conformity with the budget.  The

finance council examines what inspires and motivates generosities within the parish

community.  Finance Council members are selected by the Pastor.

 

 

                                   Holy Name Society

Mission Statement:


The Holy Name Society is an organization whose purpose is to provide the

opportunity to members, as well as all parishioners, to increase their spirituality,

serve their church community and perform selfless acts of charity.


Meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month.  The members attend the

8:30 A.M. Mass and hold a Communion Breakfast and meeting immediately following Mass.


   Among the more significant events sponsored by this organization are:

  • Monthly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on First Fridays
  • Annual Retreat at Loyola Retreat House weekend after Labor Day
  • Annual Beefsteak Dinner held the Wednesday before Ash Wednesday
  • Annual Golf Outing held in June
  • Annual Spaghetti Dinner held in November


There are many other parish events supported by this group, including the Annual Right to

Life March in Washington D.C.  All men are encouraged to join this active organization.

 

 

                                    Legion of Mary

Mission Statement:


As the name implies, the members of the Legion of Mary are her
soldiers and act as an extension of the Church to supplement the Clergy in
visiting and comforting the sick.  Meetings are held every Monday at 8:00 P.M.

in the rectory meeting room.


Significant works include:

  • Crisis center pregnancy volunteering at Birthright
  • Placing the Fatima statue in homes when requested
  • Weekly visits to Bergen Regional Hospital where our members transport patients to Mass
  • Weekly visits to Saddle Brook Nursing Home for prayer and a sing along
  • Bi-weekly visits to Bristol Manor Nursing Home where residents are taught to make Rosaries


The Legion of Mary is open to parishioners, male and female and all are encouraged to join.

 



                       Outreach to the Homebound

To identify the needs of the homebound in our St Philip's community.
Through caring ministers, to meet these needs and alleviate the
loneliness and isolation often felt by the homebound.

 


                                  Parish Pastoral Council

Mission Statement:


"To insure that the life of the parish reflects the mission of Jesus" and "to enable

all parishioners to share in that mission" through their ministries.  It is the

responsibility of the council to work with the Pastor in matters pertaining to the

spiritual, social, civic, financial and educational affairs of the parish.  The council

is representative of the four major areas or Clusters which embrace all of the

parish ministries, programs and activities.  These Clusters are :  Word, Worship,

Community Building and Service.  It is the goal of the Parish Council to promote
communication and cooperation between the various ministries within each Cluster.

Council members are selected by the Pastor after a discernment process.

 

 

 

          Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

Mission Statement:

 

This is a journey for those who are not baptized seeking full membership in the

Catholic Church or those baptized and seeking full membership in our Church. 

It is a process whereby these people share the scriptures, the teachings of Christ,

the community of the Church.

 

 

                                Rosary Altar Society

Mission Statement:


 The Rosary Altar Society is a dedicated group of women helping to
bring    about increased devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary through prayer and

the recitation of the Rosary.


The Society gathers as a body to attend the 8:30 Mass on the first Sunday
of each month.  Meetings of the society are held on the last Thursday of the month

at 7:30 P.M.  The Society also maintains the beauty of the church and altar.

 

Among the Society's events are:

  • Spring and Fall Bake Sales
  • Covered Dish Dinner in February
  • Annual Fun Night
  • Living Rosary on the fourth Thursday in May
  • Crowning the Statue of the Blessed Virgin
  • Woman's Annual Retreat on the second weekend of March

 


                          Rosary for Special Intentions

Mission Statement:


To provide a place where The Rosary, a special form of prayerful
reflection, may be recited in a group atmosphere and where the special
intentions of those in attendance are offered for consideration by our
Blessed Mother.  The rosary is recited Monday through Saturday following

the 8:30 A.M. Mass in the day chapel.

 


                            St. Vincent de Paul Society

Mission Statement:

 

  • To celebrate Christ in our lives and dedicate a portion of our
    lives to the service of God's people.
  • To especially look out for those people in need.
  • To act as a group in the spirit of justice and charity and person to
    person involvement of our members to help those that are suffering.
  • No work of charity should be foreign to our group.
  • All members shall set aside some time to share with those that are in

            need and less fortunate than ourselves.


In addition to offering both spiritual and financial assistance to the needy,

members of this society also make themselves available to feed the homeless at

county shelters and provide transportation for those having a need for that service.

 

 

                         Social Concerns Committee

Mission Statement:


This committee coordinates community petitions and mailings to legislators on

issues pertaining to social justice and the rights of all people.  The social

concerns committee coordinates with the St. Vincent de Paul Society to help

those in need.  The group schedules meals once a month for HIV/AIDS infected

men at Harrison House in Bergen County.  In cooperation with the Inter-religious

Fellowship for the Homeless they cook for the homeless in Hackensack.  They

prepare "care kits" for the homeless shelters as needed. The group organizes the

parish food collection for the Helping Hand soup kitchen at Sacred Heart Church in

Rochelle Park and other organizations on a continuing basis.
